Fair Housing Act Training – March 2, 2023

This very important training is designed to inform all attendees of the Fair Housing Law and how to avoid the effect violations of the law can have on your organization.  On March 2, 2023 two sessions will be held– ~~ :9:00 am to 12:00 noon for Housing Managers, Management Agents, Owners/Landlords & Realtors ~~ 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm for Maintenance Staff & Personnel.

The Federal Fair Housing Act (1968 and 1988) makes it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing when the discrimination is based on any of the following factors:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • National Origin
  • Familial Status
  • Disability

The Laws protect against discriminatory actions (based on one of the factors above)  such as:

  • refusing to sell or rent
  • sexual harassment
  • quoting a difference in housing availability
  • quoting a difference insecurity deposit required
  • quoting a different monthly rent
  • refusing to rent to a family or individual with children

Each first place winner won a $100 gift card and a blue ribbon. and each second place winner won a $50 gift card and a red ribbon.

DE NAHRO Scholarship

DE NAHRO annually awards a $4,000 scholarship to a graduating Delaware High School Senior to continue their education.  Each year for up to 4 years the awardee can receive a $1,000 to be used toward their college education.  In order to qualify for the scholarship program, the applicant most meet the following criteria:

–Lives in subsidized housing defined as Project Based Section 8, Rural Development Section 515,Housing Choice Voucher, Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), Public Housing, Habitat for Humanity Home, Self Help Homeownership Program, or USDA Rural Development Homeownership Program at time of application.

–Has 2.5 Minimum Cumulative GPA

–Provide 2 Letters of recommendation: one from a person in authority from the high school and one from a community leader.

–Write a 500 word essay –  “Who or what has inspired you to further your education?  Explain your future goals and aspirations.

–Provides a completed application with a list of all extra-curricular activities in school and in the community.
